Much to my surprise and excitement while traveling back from INTEROP  this week, I learned the folks over at ITKE (IT Knowledge Exchange) at TechTarget selected my blog (http://SecurityUncorked.com) as their IT Blog of the Week.

I wasn’t familiar with ITKE, so I took a few minutes to check it out and found some nice information, posts and product reviews over there, as well as other featured blogs you should definitely check out, including:

If you find a few free moments, take a stroll through the listings and see if you find a few gems with content that solves a problem for you!

A Better Blog… Coming Up!

It’s that time- we need more ‘stuff’!

Once upon a time…
When I first started this blog, I wasn’t quite sure what would happen… where it would go… or even if I could keep finding enough new things to talk about. I haven’t had a problem finding topics, only the time to write them all!

Point being, when I started the blog, I began with a hosted solution – Squarespace. My blog host is not free, but has provided a nice platform for me to get started and easily maintain the site, posts and reporting.

Having been in the web development business for years, I know what’s involved in maintaining a site and really didn’t want to throw myself back into all that. However, the time has come. We need more ‘stuff’ and to get all the fun stuff we want I’m going to need to make some drastic changes in the platform.

What’s getting added…
Soon you’re going to have a better blog site to enjoy. The changes will provide easier and better comment and collaboration systems, more capable search tools and email forms, a blog roll and better methods for linking and trackbacks. The changes will also allow me to modify the domain host records so we can access the site without the “www”, a specific request by some, namely ‘the Wilde’.

Overall, I hope the changes will give you the tools to better use the site, find the content you want and have the ability to make it ‘your’ community and a place for interaction and idea exchange.

When?
I’ll keep you posted through the changes and hope you’ll hang in there. The content is/will/should all be the same and will be transferred in its entirety. It will be a process so you may not see any changes for a bit. It’s important the new site is up and functioning before anything is replaced.

Also, I’ll be looking for your feedback of what you like and don’t like!

I’m excited :)

Well, I’m getting more and more excited about the upcoming Security Bloggers Meetup at RSA.

I’ve had the distinct pleasure of having a brief run-in with Alan Shimel and Ryan Russell just this week, so I can cross them off my ‘yet to meet’ list and add them to the ‘looking forward to seeing again’ list.

With my recent addition of (and addiction to) Twitter, I’ve had the opportunity to chat and swap semi-meaningless banter with a variety of other SBN members, especially the ‘glue’ of the event, Jennifer Leggio, and some of the main ‘characters’… a fitting term I’d say… including Martin McKeayThe Hoffmeister,  Rich Mogull, Ryan Naraine, Mister Brad Feld, the second Jack Daniel I now know, plus our recently-crowned greatest live-tweeter everBen J and several others- I’m still learning who’s who and who’s going to the Meetup at RSA. Sorry if I’ve missed anyone, but please hop on the SBN site and check out the latest blogs and member links.

You’ll definitely be seeing more info and updates from me as we get closer to RSA, and I plan to try and blog regularly while there to let you all know what shenangians are going on. Until then, here’s a little more info to stay in the loop!

Want to know more? You can find more blog links on SBN and a fit-to-twit list at (the other) Jennifer’s Security Twit post.

Want to watch the event Live? If you’re a regular reader of my blog, or any of the other SBN group, you’ll get a chance to join us virtually. Evidently they (or I guess ‘we’) will be streaming live with conferencing and video blogs. Check this link for details on live event streams. Guaranteed to be entertaining!

I wanted to take a moment and send shout-outs (as we say) to a couple of fellow bloggers. I’m a baby blogger, so I apprecited the recent posts and mentions, from Alan Shimel on his blog StillSecure… and Augusto Paes de Barros (former Brazilian ISSA President) on his blog Security Balance. (more…)
