As a Board Member of not just (ISC)2, but also of the (ISC)2 Foundation, I'm very excited to share that (ISC)2 is offering a live, in-person Safe and Secure Online Volunteer Training right here in North Carolina on Tuesday, December 2nd. The training runs from 11am-2pm with a break for lunch. It's definitely worth the drive from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Sanford, Durham and even Charlotte and Greenville. These live trainings are typically only offered at large industry events such as the RSA Conference and Security Congress. As the event description notes, it really is a unique opportunity and I hope my colleagues in the area will join me in taking full advantage!

Safe_and_Secure-Dec2 TrainingThe training is a major step in the process to become authorized to teach the Safe and Secure Online curriculum to students, parents and teachers in our own local communities.

Details of the training are below. I’d strongly encourage any and all NC InfoSec professionals qualified to attend to join us Tuesday. I say “us” only because I’ll be attending as well. The event is hosted by the (ISC)2 Raleigh-Durham Chapter, and is sponsored by the Raleigh ISSA Chapter.

I can’t speak highly enough about the Safe and Secure Online program. For the past year or so, I’ve heard some amazing stories of how these sessions have changed the lives of children across the US and the world. Read below for more about this great program, and I hope to see you there.

About Safe and Secure Online – Internet Safety for Kids!

Thanks to the dedication of our uniquely skilled and qualified members who have volunteered their time and efforts, hundreds of thousands of children have been introduced to the concepts that help protect them from issues such as cyberbullying, malware, spam, phishing, password protection, texting, online reputation and safe use of social networking.

Operating in the USA, Canada, the UK, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Ireland, and India our program has successfully reached almost 100,000 children and is rapidly growing in size, scope and geography.

Who should attend?

The (ISC)2 Safe and Secure Online program works through volunteer efforts by members of (ISC)2. Becoming a Safe and Secure Volunteer gives you the tools to teach children, parents, and school teachers in your community how to be responsible digital citizens. As an (ISC)² member, you possess the knowledge and skills to protect your organization: Why not use those skills to protect your local community as well?

You should register for this volunteer training if:

  • You’re a currently certified member of (ISC)2
  • You have a passion for cyber security and Internet safety
  • You’re ready to share your knowledge and help your local community
